TK Readiness Guidelines

Please ensure your child meets the following guidelines before enrolling your Transitional Kindergarten (TK) student.

California Age Guidelines

For the 2024-25 school year, students must turn five (5) years old by June 2, 2025.
More information can be found here.

Upcountry Academy Program Guidelines

Please keep in mind that our programs are designed as enrichment courses for kindergarteners and older. If your child meets the age and readiness guidelines for Transitional Kindergarten (TK), they may enroll in our Kindergarten-level classes.

In addition to CA age requirements for Transitional Kindergarten, we also have the following TK milestones that should be met by your student prior to enrolling:

  • Self Care: Washes hands, uses restroom independently (potty-trained), cleans up after self, puts things away, does not require nap during class time

  • Independence: Can understand how/when to snack and stay hydrated, can overcome anxiety of newness

  • Discussions & Independent Work: Can sit in circle time (when applicable) for 15-20 minutes and participate in group activities or discussions; can quietly engage in independent work without creating disruption/distraction for other students.

To ensure that our programs are the right fit for your TK student, we provide a 2-week trial period at the start of the class, during which time you, or Upcountry Academy, may determine that additional time may be needed to allow readiness guidelines to be met.

Please note that we reserve the right to independently make this determination and request that you re-enroll once guidelines are able to be met, at which time a refund would be issued for tuition paid and/or instructional funds vouchers would be canceled. We appreciate your understanding in this matter, as we strive to provide a successful learning environment for all students.
